About the event
We welcome the community to join us on Monday, June 19th, 2023 from 10am - 5pm at the Shirley-Eustis House in Roxbury for:
The Freedom Cookout We will be providing free tours of the historic, old governor's mansion. After the tour, join us on the lawn for a free cookout celebrating Juneteenth, and honoring those who were enslaved at this site almost 200 years ago. We will be providing the community with free food, lawn games, live entertainment, and an opportunity to shop and support the small businesses who will be vending inside of the barn.
THE HONORING CEREMONY We will be having a ceremony on the main lawn to honor the 5 slaves who we know were enslaved at The Shirley-Eustis House. This ceremony will open with a powerful performance by Africano Waltham, a live performance by the band Terrace Live, and a keynote speaker. Our keynote speaker will be announced closer to the date of this event! Please note that part of the front lawn will be reserved for V.I.P guests from 2:15 - 3:15pm. For V.I.P access, please email Black.Brown.Boston@gmail.com as we have 10 tickets available for members of the community.
